Cheap Service = Bad Service?

Hey it’s been raining like shit for almost 72 hours straight and it does not look like it’s about to stop any time soon. As a part of my routine I have to visit the Post office several times a week. A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do. The shitty Chinese raincoat has torn apart in less than a month. After lunch I was at Sundhara Post office and after the first attendant inspecting the packaged good and sealing it she sent me to counter #8 . Usually everything in there is done manually. They label things with pre-printed bar codes and grandpa at counter# 14 would finish the rest of the process and let me get to my business. But this time it was different…..holy shit…They had COMPUTERS and PRINTERS. Welcome to 2012 ladies and gentlemen I said in my head. I was barely done with this thought when I reached the Counter #8 and witness what seemed like about 150 envelopes and a man labeling them one at a time. I waited to let him finish labeling at least the already printed labels. 10 minutes past  he does not even care i am standing right in front of him. …and I waited patiently. And the it was SINGHAM mode in my head.

Me: Excuse me sir can you please just help me, so that I could be on my way.

(By the way there was no one there but me in that particular counter and a few men who seemed to be from a bank or a finance company. The man at the counter was helping them when I got there. )

#8: You will have to wait a little bit.

(3 minute past.) I am steaming in my head and I have officially started to twitch.

Me: Sir I have other things to do could you put that on hold or something that’s like 100 more envelops it will take you an hour.

#8: No I will be done sooner. The system is already printing I cannot stop it. And the rest of us are all doing the same thing …you will have to wait.

Me: What kind of bull shit is this ? Who is your superior? I want to talk to him…… (I learned this dialogue from calling customer service in America). You guys should have a separate counter for this kind of high volume customers.

While I am arguing with this nut-job a guy who was witnessing all this calls me over and checks me out. Why wasn’t that an option in the first place? What a mockery of our system, for an instance I thought we were making some progress but then again I was wrong. I have my SINGHAM mode on but for the ones that cannot stand for themselves this system is a nightmare. You show them you will not tolerate bullshit and then someone takes notice.
